A visit to the Pawnee National Grassland is ideal for guests looking to enjoy a day out with family or friends during their stay in Fort Morgan, CO.

The Pawnee National Grasslands was once home to Pioneers who settled in the area in the late 1800s. It is part of the short grass plains of North America, with the the most notable example of this environment found in the Pawnee Buttes. These 300-foot rocks are isolated rock formations left over after years of erosion. Around the buttes, visitors can enjoy hiking and horseback trails, as well as a number of great observation areas that allow guests to take in the sprawling grasslands.

Avid birdwatchers will enjoy their visit to the grasslands! Hawks, falcons, owls and a range of other unique birds frequent the area, most notable of these being the Colorado State Bird, the Lark Bunting. There are also over 400 species of plants and wildflowers in the grasslands.
